Art et Culture

Sur une base de calcul par habitant, les arts de la scène de Wakefield se veulent plus grands que New York et Paris. Dans ce petit village d'environ mille citoyens, on y retrouve 2 bars présentant des concerts régulièrement, une troupe de théâtre et plusieurs galeries d'arts. On y retrouve aussi la demeure de douzaines d'artistes et musiciens. Le calendrier local est composé d'une multitude de festivals annuels qui prennent de l'ampleur chaque année - le festival des récoltes, le festival du dragon en hiver, le Piggyback Fringe et le Festival international du film de Wakefield - organisés par la troupe Théâtre Wakefield, Wakefest, le tour des artistes dans leur environnement et le festival de la rivière Gatineau. Ces événements contribuent à bâtir la réputation de Wakefield comme étant un village de festivals. La beauté et le côté enchanteur des collines de la Gatineau ont ainsi inspiré plusieurs artistes à chanter, danser et peindre, et ce, au fil des années.

Dragonfest
This festival started as a birthday party for Wakefield's village poet, Phil Cohen, and has evolved into an annual village celebration of all things winter. Each year, an enormous dragon is carved from snow for kids to climb and slide on, and activities include snow sculpting, ice hockey, snow tubing, children's games, hot food, and much more!

Wakefield Canada Day Parade, Flotilla and Festival
Every July 1, Wakefield celebrates Canada's birthday with a parade down Riverside Drive, and a simultaneous flotilla down the Gatineau River. Festivities then proceed to the community centre for children's activities, food, live music and fireworks at dusk. After dark, the party usually moves to the Black Sheep Inn and Kaffe 1870.
Romprestomp
Municipal councillor Louis Rompre's birthday party has grown each year to the point that it is now one of the region's most anticipated summer bashes. Romprestomp has become a veritable outdoor music festival featuring incredible live music and dancing outdoors into the wee hours of the morning.
